Apparently I'm on a Cowl Kick?

I'm back in another airport this week, headed to San Diego this time, for a family event. It sure feels like we've been doing a lot of traveling lately!

So I'm going to attempt to keep this one short. (Wish me luck, lol.)

Yesterday I packed up the five pieces I'm submitting to the Hawai'i Craftsmen show and handed them off to a very generous friend who offered to take them in for jurying for me.

Here they are all laid out on a bed:

I tell you what, I thought my heart was going to drop right out of my body when I realized we were going to be out of town for jurying. It sure is good to have friends!! Whew.

Oh and here's the new Molokai tapestry, inspired by my trip up the side of the mountain at the Kalaupapa Lookout, alongside the picture I took there and the painting that followed:

I think it turned out pretty well!

I haven't started working on the video compilation yet, that will show some of the processes of making it, but I'm looking forward to doing that soon. It always feels kind of special to see a video like that come together!

Let's see.... oh! I also recently shared a new pattern preview over on Patreon for a simpler (no color changes) version of my Unscripted Florals Scarf as a buttoned cowl. It's available as an individual post for $5 or you can join me as a monthly supporter for as little as $2 and get access to over 20 unpublished patterns. (You'll also get a postcard each month Connie-made art on it!)

I haven't gotten any good pictures of it yet on my person, but it's a cute little cowl! I might make it longer if I were to do it again, because it is a pretty snug little thing, but I didn't know that it would block out quite as wide as it did. Which I don't mind at all!

The stripes are my favorite thing, though (besides those cute buttons!), which is one reason I love spinning my own yarn. That and being able to make it z-twist! But that's a tangent for another time.

There's actually another cowl in my crochet bag right now and it's a redesign of the Nautical Cowl (also available as a pattern preview) that will be bigger around as well as wider so that more of the two skeins of yarn are used. Here's the yarn I picked out for this new version:

And yes, it was also inspired by some of the artwork in my Unscripted Florals Collection!

This yummy rainbow tweed is from Marianated Yarns and I'm just loving how it's working up so far.

I think it's a lovely fit for the more wintery looking florals. What do you think??

Aren't those colorful little nepps just too much fun!? I love tweed yarns.

Okay, I think I might be able to get this out to you before we fly, so I'd better hush if that's going to happen!

Have a great weekend, y'all.

Cheers!

-Connie

P.S. Here's the postcard I'll be sending out to each of my amazing paying members over on Patreon this month. If you'd like one in your mailbox, too, you can join me for as little as $2 a month (which makes you an official Patron of the arts, you know). I'd love to send a little extra joy your way!

Yes, you read that right—calendarS with an S! I have TWO for you to choose between! Buy a Connie-made Calendar here! (A caveat: I literally just put the finishing touches on these, so I don't have my samples yet—the images in the listing are just mockups. So if you prefer to wait until I have physical examples in my hands to show you, I totally get it! I will also have a folding calendar option, which is better for appointment keeping, but the mockup images didn't look like a folding...

I am happy to report that there isn't much to report this week. And after all the excitement of last week, that's quite a relief! Dipper is still herding her four little fluffbutts around and there's only been a singular mongoose sighting in the past week. Which was OUTside the house, thank goodness! I've been working on the shawl pattern a bit, but I still haven't gotten it off the blocking boards for photos yet. Three weeks ago I strained something in my lower back and I've been struggling...

Oh boy do I have a story for you this week! So the kiddo had a four day weekend (Parent Teacher Conferences) and on Tuesday I was really looking forward to some quiet, productive time. (Spoiler alert: I didn't get it.) I hadn't managed to get my tutorial to finish up the shawl filmed over the long weekend for obvious reasons and I'd also fallen behind on my Bloomtober paintings. (Chime in on whether or not you think I should do a Toxic Florals Collection here, by the way!) That morning, I had...
