Granny at a Rave is Now on Etsy!

It took me longer than I thought it would, but I finally got my ish together and have added Granny at a Rave to my Etsy listings!

The Etsy listing ONLY includes the new, three-skein version of the shawl, so if you're looking for the original version using the mini skeins, you'll only find that on Ravelry (you get both versions at one time there). But you could totally riff off either version of the pattern to make it your own, bigger or smaller, stashbusting, mini skeins, or whatever!

The new version DOES include a link to a video tutorial, though, which is the real gold. It's totally beginner friendly, too, if you're feeling a tad adventurous. Which, I hope, since you're here with me, you always are!

(Psst, paying members over on Patreon get a coupon to save 10% in my Etsy shop each month, which you can use on this pattern! You can join me for as little as $2 a month.)

Also, if I can get the stars to align, you know with things like the weather (lighting), landscapers (noise), and getting the kiddo to be quiet enough somewhere for long enough (interruptions), I'm going to film a pattern demo video so you can see Granny at a Rave in action! So stay tuned for that.

And send extra patience. Or maybe wine.

In other exciting news, I got my Molokai display set up at my local library! Huzzah!!

I was almost immediately accosted by imposter syndrome after I finished setting up, which isn't surprising, I suppose, but I wish I'd felt nothing but excitement! Because it should be exciting. Not just vulnerable and scary. Yikes!

It is cool to see it shared in a public space like this, though, and I really hope it's received well.

I got some more pictures and story added into my webpage, too, by the way, so be sure to check that out if you haven't seen my work from Molokai yet.

I also hope my crochet class this weekend goes well. It's already full!! With people on a waitlist! Crazy.

I haven't taught in person in a while, so I'm a tad bit nervous about that, too, but I bet I'll settle right back into it once I get going. I do enjoy teaching!

Although 15 new students all at once may be a bit of a challenge, ha ha. Wish me luck!

It'll be great, I'm sure. And since I'm in prep-for-beginner-crochet-class mode right now, I thought I'd share a couple resources that I have here with you.

This is a set of handouts I like to share with new students: New Crochet Student Handouts.pdf

It includes a list of common crochet abbreviations and chart symbols, step-by-step instructions for getting started with the slip knot, chain stitch, single and double crochet, as well as info on Warm Up America!, where you can donate 7" x 9" crocheted rectangles that will be assembled into blankets and distributed by volunteers to people in homeless shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and more.

Making small squares or rectangles is a great way to practice new stitches without diving into a big project as a beginner (or making a scarf somewhere you don't really need one, like here in Hawaii!) and so I always like to make sure new students know they can do something like this, where they can learn, practice, and make a difference! (Without worrying about it being perfect.)

Have you ever done any charity crocheting? What's your favorite organization to donate to??

Oh and the handouts are courtesy of the Craft Yarn Council from way back when I first started teaching! I'm not sure they even have these pdfs available anymore. They're still good info, though, so I don't see any reason to try to reinvent the wheel! Feel free to share with a friend who is interested in learning to crochet.

And if you know someone who wants to learn to crochet but they don't have a local yarn store or someone else to learn from in person (always my recommendation!), then I do have an intro to crochet class on Skillshare. (That link should give you the first month free if you're a new user—they have LOTS of great classes if you love learning of all kinds!)

So.

That's what's been going on in my world. Library display, class prep, and getting Granny at a Rave up on Etsy! Feels like a productive enough week when I look at it all here.

How about you? Have you had a good week? Think back on something that made you smile. Now go do some more of that sort of thing!

Cheers, y'all!

-Connie

P.S. Patrons are voting for their favorite postcard for this month! Which one of these is your fave?

P.P.S. It's the first week of summer break and my son is sitting beside me "helping" today and he insists on sharing a picture of a baby chicken(s) with you! So here you go (the little stinkers don't stay still long):

Y'all! I finally got to go SEE it!!! Ta da!!! Getting back home from my trip to FL/KS/FL was... an adventure. There were canceled flights and ground stops (one was for a rocket launch!) and a nine-hour layover in a bonus city. All with a nine-year-old in tow. I'm all tuckered out! And we only got home just yesterday afternoon. BUT. I was still really excited to finally get to go see the Aurora Borealis exhibition!!! I dropped off the two pieces I submitted for jurying just a couple days...

This week, I'm writing to you from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where I'm taking a leadership and development course alongside my husband. His classes are all about preparing him for his next job. The class I'm in is specifically designed for military spouses, to help inform and prepare us to be able to better support our spouses, ourselves, and our families—and the Soldiers and their families, too, in this next role. It's... a lot! I'm a bit overwhelmed. Over-stimulated. Exhausted. But it's...

Last week was a bit of a vulnerable share, showing you the work I was submitting to two juried art shows, but I really do believe in championing our own creations! Choosing myself first, declaring my work worthy enough to invest in the submission process, maybe has even more value than being chosen by someone else. That said, it sure does feel good to get a yes! And to get two yeses? Wow, what a week! I'm delighted to share that one tapestry was invited for the 15th Annual Abstracts Only show...
