It feels like it's been a quiet week, but now that I think about it, it's actually been pretty busy! I've made a lot of progress on the shawl, though it's definitely getting slower as the rows get longer: I'm still looking for a better name than the Sand Bubbler Crab Shawl, ha ha. Any suggestions?? By the way, if you're following along with the pattern over on Patreon, (it's available for all members, both paid and free) the eyelets that you see here are a new addition! They'll be included in the final version of the pattern when it's published. I quite like the way they look! And it helps break up the repetition of the solid pattern a bit. You know me; I do like options! Another exciting tidbit to share, last weekend, my two favorite guys completed the Honolulu Triathlon: So proud of them both! Especially the kiddo. He did something HARD. And he finished! (And got a root beer float to celebrate!) It was fun to spend some time downtown, too. Walking around Magic Island was cool, watching fish and people and even spotting a couple night herons! I also captured this image of some bright pink bougainvillea growing at the Ala Moana mall: I do love these plants. Pinks and purples and oranges and so many shades in between. Sometimes even on the same bush! Tree? I'm actually not sure how they're classified. Must look that up! I really also should do some more painting studies of these. I can see bougainvilleas inspiring quite the colorful tapestry! Since I'm also nearly finished crocheting the blue jacaranda blooms inspired tapestry that I shared about last time. Ooh, don't all those shades of purple just make you feel happy!? I can't wait to see this one finished and mounted, though that may not be for a while yet. I'll need to wash and block it once the crocheting is done and then see what size it wants to be once it's fully dry before I order the wood panel. I'll also need to decide on nail color for mounting. Silver, black, gold? I'm leaning towards silver. Probably because the bark of the jacaranda tree is gray. *runs outside to take picture* Yup. I think it's going to be silver hardware! What do you think? And what's been inspiring YOU lately? Spring flowers blooming? A good book? Summer break quickly approaching?? Got any fun plans? Hit reply and we'll chat a bit! (I've got another cold so I'm probably looking at some extra couch time.) Until then, cheers! -Connie P.S. I spied this cute chick napping under the jacaranda tree and couldn't resist snapping a picture! |
Seeker of beauty and joy in the cracks of mundanity, inviting you along for adventures through texture and color!
Y'all! I finally got to go SEE it!!! Ta da!!! Getting back home from my trip to FL/KS/FL was... an adventure. There were canceled flights and ground stops (one was for a rocket launch!) and a nine-hour layover in a bonus city. All with a nine-year-old in tow. I'm all tuckered out! And we only got home just yesterday afternoon. BUT. I was still really excited to finally get to go see the Aurora Borealis exhibition!!! I dropped off the two pieces I submitted for jurying just a couple days...
This week, I'm writing to you from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where I'm taking a leadership and development course alongside my husband. His classes are all about preparing him for his next job. The class I'm in is specifically designed for military spouses, to help inform and prepare us to be able to better support our spouses, ourselves, and our families—and the Soldiers and their families, too, in this next role. It's... a lot! I'm a bit overwhelmed. Over-stimulated. Exhausted. But it's...
Last week was a bit of a vulnerable share, showing you the work I was submitting to two juried art shows, but I really do believe in championing our own creations! Choosing myself first, declaring my work worthy enough to invest in the submission process, maybe has even more value than being chosen by someone else. That said, it sure does feel good to get a yes! And to get two yeses? Wow, what a week! I'm delighted to share that one tapestry was invited for the 15th Annual Abstracts Only show...
