I won my first art show award! With my crocheted fiber art!!

Last weekend was the opening reception for the annual Columbus Artists' Guild Member's Exhibition.

Since it wasn't a juried show and I simply had to pay to submit one or two pieces of my choosing, I decided to do something a little different for this one.

I chose to pair a fiber artwork with one of the photographs I took of some flowers that helped inspire the tapestry.

Flowers:

Fiber Art:

The flowers are humble little blooms. Sneezeweed, in fact, they're called.

Which I think is rather unfortunate considering how delightfully they decorate the grasses along our roadways and sidewalks here in Georgia! I mean, how can all that yellow NOT make you smile every once in a while?

And so I titled the photograph "When even the weeds offer inspiration..."

Followed by the tapestry's title "BLOOM [in yellow]" because, well, they belong together.

And I was so tickled that they remained together for the installation at the library!

Now, I don't know if the judges the guild brought in to assign awards (I received 2nd place in Professional Mixed Media, yay!) noticed the relationship between the two pieces across different mediums.

But I am definitely planning on doing it this way again next year!

And I even have a photograph in mind already....

That's a future Connie decision, though. And I have nearly a whole 'nother year to take pictures of what I find blooming across Georgia, after all! We'll see what inspires me next.

In the meantime, it's back to work on the magazine project for PieceWork!

P.S. How about a small sneezeweed gallery for my fellow yellow flower fans?

I just finished up a special little project. Well. Actually. I hope it's just the beginning of a special little project! One of my very first self-published crochet patterns was for some thread crochet flower hairclips I was making during my last days of attempting to sell at local markets. Each one had a double layer of five petals and I added a button to the center, too. They were cute! Every so often I revisit this pattern. Usually, it's just to use up a little bit of leftover yarn. I've...

On Saturday I dragged the fam to LaGrange for some Midnyt Burgers and an art show. Aren't we cute!? Okay, so I think the kid was more excited about the smash burgers than the art, oh AND the snacks at the reception, but he did all right. And my darling husband did the driving and even a little picture taking so I didn't really have to drag them. LaGrange has a cute little downtown area and I think we all enjoyed the trip in our own way. Bird mural at the Art Museum, where the other half of...

And not just my name - my FACE, too, y'all! Look!!! 🤩 It's always exciting to get my hands on the first copy of a new magazine with my name in print. But when they actually use my photos, too? It's definitely extra cool! Here's another one of my pictures that's in there: Or at least I think that's the one they picked. I took sooooo many pictures for this project! And lots of video, too. In fact, if you have five minutes to spin on the beach with me, I think you'll enjoy this (sound on for...
