Black Yarn, Upcoming Exhibitions, and Banana Mac-nut Bread

Y'all. I have had THREE acceptance letters this week. Three!

I am... overwhelmed, lol.

I'm also trying to finish up my night sky inspired tapestry for the submission due on the 7th, which is Saturday, and I'm ALSO heading out to Providence Canyon on Saturday to do my second plein air event.

What am I doing to myself!? 😆

But it's also all pretty exciting. Time for show and tell?

First, here's the awesomely black handspun yarn I made for the night sky project:

Yes, it's been VERY hard to see to crochet with sometimes!

Especially with all the rainy weather we've had this week. I may or may not have added a stitch and had to frog several rows. Once or twice.

But it's on the blocking mats and ready to be mounted as soon as it's dry! Fingers crossed for some sunshine this afternoon so I can get a good photo of it for submission.

Second, here's a look at the pieces I'll be packing up to deliver for exhibitions soon!

The two small seascapes will be mailed to Key West, Florida for the Small Works exhibit at the Jag Gallery.

Kalaupapa in the Rain will be traveling for a second time, this time to St. Louis, Missouri for the Place and Memory exhibition with the St. Louis Artists' Guild.

And Twilight, the purple one, I'll be driving a couple hours north of us, to the Alpharetta Arts Center, for an exhibition called Wonder.

Which one is your favorite?? I have, in fact, had all of these hanging on my wall at one time or another!

It would be hard to part with the one inspired by Kalaupapa Lookout, but I'm hoping that some of these will be finding their forever homes soon.

You know what one of the most exciting things about doing all this is for me? The art shows and the plein air contests?

I am showing up with, dare I say it, audacity, right alongside traditional fine artists. With my fiber art. With handspun yarn and CROCHET, y'all.

You don't see a lot of crochet in the fine art world.

But it deserves to be there, too.

So. Yay crochet! 😆

And, I'm curious: have you ever created something you loved so much that you wanted to hang it on your wall? To put it on DISPLAY like a piece of art??

Because it is, you know. Art. And you are an artist. ❤️

Whether your craft is oil painting or cooking. Knit or crochet. Gardening or music. And so many more.

If you are creating, you are an artist.

And the world needs more artists. Always.

So keep creating. Whether you share your work with the world or keep it just for yourself, I hope you make room for the things that bring you joy.

Cheers!

-Connie

P.S. I practiced a different sort of creativity this week and made some banana mac-nut bread for the book club I joined last month! (Plus a mini loaf for us.) If anyone is interested in the recipe, hit reply and I'll send it to you.

The week nearly got away from me again, but I caught it by the tail end! Last weekend's en plein air event was an adventure and a half. You can read more about it here if you'd like more details (and to see all my pictures), but here it is in a nutshell: got lost in the toolies of Callaway Gardens and was late to get started, but was inspired enough by the sunflowers in Cason's Garden to power through my spinning and finish this cute little piece on time: Ta da! It was a LONG day, but I am...

Last week got away from me before I had the time to sit down and write to you, so here it is nearly the end of October already somehow! Tonight I'm dressing up as Cookie Monster, lol, and manning our cookie themed Bronco for Trunk-or-Treat. Wish me luck? I've wrapped up a couple projects lately, namely the project for PieceWork magazine, which I mailed out last week and finalized the writing for yesterday. So that felt good to complete! I also finally got one of my last fiber artworks spun...

Last weekend was the opening reception for the annual Columbus Artists' Guild Member's Exhibition. Since it wasn't a juried show and I simply had to pay to submit one or two pieces of my choosing, I decided to do something a little different for this one. I chose to pair a fiber artwork with one of the photographs I took of some flowers that helped inspire the tapestry. Flowers: Fiber Art: The flowers are humble little blooms. Sneezeweed, in fact, they're called. Which I think is rather...
