Last Call for Handspun Yarn

It's raining again here in Hawaii. Another kona low. This one seems a bit tamer, though. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Though the kid did get a rain day; he was happy for an extra day off school. Even though he's going to get out of the last two weeks off school altogether for our move!

Speaking of which, I decided to give y'all one last chance to grab some of my handspun yarn before we pack everything up next month. Here's what I have available!

All seven skeins are in my Etsy shop—and I have plans for every one of them if no one buys them!

So don't miss out if you've been thinking about trying some of my handspun because I'd really love to turn some of these into cowls and hats.

That Sunset Clouds? The CUTEST floofy little hat! With a big ol' pom, of course.

And Prism? I totally want to see what it would look like paired with a textured stitch (basketweave?) and a neutral color. A creamy white would soften the bright colors, but a dark brown or navy (do we still crochet with black yarn over 40?) would really make them POP!

In between writing Etsy listings and dreaming of what I would make with all my handspun yarn, I've also been watching NASA's live coverage of the Artemis II return. I ran downstairs to stream it to the TV just in time to catch the splashdown!

I think it's super cool. My family, on the other hand, was immediately bored three seconds after the splash, lol.

Ah well. Back to my Etsy listings and scanning Wild Floral paintings I went. With the livestream playing in the background.

Speaking of which, 1-40 are now available in the shop (yes, I've gotten a skosh behind, oops!) AND I've totally been working on a new design inspired by them. I shared the start of it with you a couple weeks ago, actually. I started it during our 26 hour power outage during the last round of kona storms.

I had purchased this fun garden themed mystery set a while back from Side Hustle Fiber Co. and Lift Bridge Yarns and it occurred to me that it was kind of a perfect complement to my Wild Florals. And, I mean, who doesn't love some mini skeins, right!?

There was also a recent call for submissions from Moorit, which is an exquisite crochet magazine that shut down for a while, but is now coming back, yay! The patterns ARE written in British terms, but I try not to hold that against them. (Here's a blog post I wrote about it if you'd like some clarification on the differences.)

I've had one pattern published with them before and I have to admit that it was my best experience with a crochet magazine. Spin Off is also great to work with, but Moorit does a really lovely job with acknowledging and tagging in their designers on socials, which I super duper appreciate.

Anyway.

I've been working on this stripey scarf and I still haven't decided yet, do I submit it for the Moorit call or do I save it to self-publish next year alongside the calendar that will almost certainly come out of this 100 Day Project painting series??

Hit reply and tell me what you think!

Of course, the problem is that we're moving next month... And that's not to say I couldn't possibly work on a magazine project during all that upheaval, but, maybe I shouldn't? We won't even have a mailing address for a few weeks, after all!

But there's something hard to resist about a magazine submission and the allure of seeing my name in print. I admit it.

So yeah, still haven't decided. But they DID inspire the stitch pattern, so... We'll see. (My working title is Garden Trellis)

In the meantime, I'm going to keep working on the scarf. It's SUCH a squishalicious little thing! Did I just make up a word?

Oh and also, be sure to watch for my next email, because I have a brand new pattern releasing next week in collaboration with Ethan from Refracted Light Fiber Arts! (Remember the green shawl??)

I was hoping to get some new photos for it, but it's been SO rainy these past few weeks. Oh well.

All right. It's pizza night and the oven just beeped at me that it's 500 degrees hot. So I better go!

Talk to you again soon.

P.S. Ms. Dipper is down to just three babies, but they're SO cute! And really, we just can't have the neighborhood completely overrun with feral chickens. But do you see that side eye she be giving me through the bushes!? 👀 No trust! 😆 (This photo was taken while spinning on my front porch, by the way.)

I haven't quite decided on a name for this one yet because my inspiration for it was twofold: First, all my little wild floral paintings for the 100 Day Project, of course! And second, Moorit magazine's recent call for submissions, which included some neat images on their moodboard of textured book storefronts and other gridlike pictures. The floral influence combined with the grid inspo became a garden trellis! Buy Pattern Preview on Patreon $5 Post stitches almost always offer a fun...

This morning I'm writing to you from a cute little cafe style table outside our room at the Navy Lodge on Ford Island. Do you see the cattle egret flying off?? It landed on the sign right as I was about to take the picture! It didn't appreciate me being there, though, lol. All of our things have been packed into boxes and crates and suitcases now and we are quickly approaching our final 24 hours here in Hawaii. It is most bittersweet. Hawaii has given me so many wonderful gifts in our three...

There's a big old blue jacaranda tree just outside our backyard that shades us almost year round. I adore her. And if you've been with me for a while, you've probably heard me talk about this tree and share pictures before. Isn't she gorgeous!? Photographs don't do her justice, of course. Here's a picture from a previous year, when the blooms were exceptionally lush: The flowers some years fall so thick from her branches that the grass is carpeted with them. It's pretty amazing. Some...
