You may or may not have noticed that I didn't write to you last week. I meant to! But all of a sudden, on Thursday evening, I realized... Wait! TODAY is Thursday, not tomorrow. Oops. I thought I'd probably write the next day, or maybe even on Saturday, but we were at Disneyland to celebrate my in-laws' 50th anniversary and we were busy all day every day! Here we were waiting in line for the Ferris wheel (NOT the swinging one!): Making memories like this was pretty special. Eight adults and four children all together for four days might be a little chaotic (as is Disney!) but everyone gets along well, thank goodness, and there were only a handful of toddler meltdowns. So win win! And I even did a little crocheting, too! Okay, so I only made eleven tiny granny squares, ha ha, plus maybe 20 minutes of work on my secret squirrel project for Spin Off magazine, but I was really glad I had some crocheting with me, even if I only fit a little bit of it in. What's your favorite type of project to bring when you're traveling? Do you have a favorite set of travel supplies?? Here was my Disney set up: Yarn and hook, of course, plus reading glasses with case, lol. Gotta have them for that fingering weight yarn these days! Stitch markers are a must, along with a nail file of some sort because I seem to always break a nail when we fly. And a non-leaky lip balm, too. I have some "TSA safe" folding scissors that I travel with and so far no one has confiscated them. Nor has anyone been jabbed with one of my darning needles yet... 😬 Sometimes I put it in with the stitch markers, but usually it's just threaded into the zipper fabric. I like having a smaller notions bag for all the little things plus a larger project bag that holds the yarn AND the notions pouch. And actually, I crammed all this into a third bag that is an old Thirty-One cinch sac that is still my favorite for toting crochet around with me on the go because I can pop it all into the open zippered pocket and wear it on my front! I've tried crocheting while I walk, but I don't seem to be quite coordinated enough for all that, so mostly I use this arrangement when I can't sit down. Like while standing in line for the Ferris wheel! I'm not much of a ride person, but I do enjoy walking around, doing a little people watching, and indulging in some of the eats and treats around the park. I thought I'd get more crocheting done, to be honest with you, but like I said earlier, we stayed pretty busy! It was a good time, for sure. But I'm happy to be back home. Being home has me dreaming up some new ways to connect and create with you again—especially as we begin to prepare for our upcoming move. I'd really love to work with more people on color confidence, specifically. If that sounds like your jam, stay tuned… or come join me on Patreon if you don’t want to miss what I’m experimenting with next. 💛 Oh! I almost forgot, if you're digging my tiny granny squares, the written instructions and a video walkthrough are available on Patreon (you can buy just that one post or join me for $2+/month to get access to all my pattern previews), along with the schematic for the cardigan I may or may not ever make with all these little boogers.
And I'd love to hear from you if you have any favorite travel supplies or projects! Just hit that reply button. In fact, I'm waiting on a sample order of some zippered pouches with my art on them, so if you might be in the market for some new bags soon, I hope to share more about that soon!! In the meantime, happy crocheting, y'all! -Connie P.S. I think I spent as much time taking pictures of flowers as I did crocheting at Disney! This is one of my favorite shots: P.P.S. Just look at these kids! What a mess they are. 😆 I sure will miss these little dudes when we move this summer. |

Hello, hello! So, first up, quick reminder: the Color Lab workshop begins in just a couple hours, so if you haven't registered yet, go save your spot! I'll close purchases shortly before the workshop begins. Second, I'm doing the 100 Day Project again! Are you? Stay tuned for more...
I've been thinking about hand-dyed yarn a lot lately. You know the kind. That skein that makes you literally gasp out loud in the yarn shop. The colors feel alive. It's so full of promise and you snatch it right off the shelf! Maybe something like this? You take it home, wind it up, start crocheting and... you start to feel disappointed because it just isn't at all like what you imagined. If that's happened to you before, I want to say something clearly: You're not doing anything wrong. Most...
I'm sitting at my kitchen table this morning, coffee growing cold in my blue Molokai mug sitting beside me. The rose-ringed parakeets are squabbling and squawking at the bird feeder on our back porch while a handful of feral chickens meander hopefully underneath it, anxiously waiting for some choice morsel to get tossed out for them to gobble up. I'm sitting here letting my coffee get cold because, like many of you, I'm sure, my heart is so very heavy right now, and I just can't seem find the...
