I'm in Spin Off Magazine!

And not just my name - my FACE, too, y'all! Look!!! 🤩

It's always exciting to get my hands on the first copy of a new magazine with my name in print.

But when they actually use my photos, too? It's definitely extra cool!

Here's another one of my pictures that's in there:

Or at least I think that's the one they picked. I took sooooo many pictures for this project!

And lots of video, too.

In fact, if you have five minutes to spin on the beach with me, I think you'll enjoy this (sound on for beach waves and a beautiful soundtrack from Scott Buckley):

So do you feel more relaxed now?? I know I do!

The cowl pattern was inspired by the fiber colorway: Peacock, from Greenwood Fiberworks. (Also, incidentally, we DID see peacocks near the beach in Hawaii a few times!)

Each motif is a slightly asymmetric square that features a large circle, kind of like the eyespot on a peacock's tail feathers.

The edging is asymmetric as well, with a wider edging on one side of the cowl, just for funsies.

And also for options!

And also because I was trying to use as much of the yarn as I could and there wasn't enough for TWO wider edges.

So there she is!

It's a great design for ombre yarns, of course, and works just fine with handspun yarn that has some thick and thin spots. It would also probably look great in a solid color, too!

The pattern is available exclusively in the Fall 2026 issue of Spin Off magazine from Long Thread Media.

Oh and if you need more beach spinning videos in your life?

I just added another one!

It's shorter (plying goes much faster than spinning singles does) but it features another cool music track from Scott.

Now. I need to get back to work on my next magazine project! More on that soon. ;)

Cheers!

-Connie

P.S. I know you were wondering if I got any pictures of the peacocks in Hawaii and OF COURSE I did!!! This was taken at the Bellows AFB campgrounds just across the road from the beach.

I thought I'd have this announcement for you sooner than now, but here we are! Here's a peek at what's on the shelf and ready to ship: Grab your favorite! And, actually, there will be lots more handspun coming soon because I can't seem to get enough spinning time in lately. I have... five? in process right now. Two are ready to wind off the bobbin and wash. Two are ready to be plied. But instead of plying, I decided to start just one more new spin first, lol. It's just so bright and lively! I...

Hey, it's been a while! Thanks for your patience with me while we worked on settling into our new home. We're almost there! The kid started school this week and I'm actually really looking forward to settling into our new routine. So far so good with the new school - he especially likes the menu here. 😆 And although I haven't been writing much to share what I've been working on lately, tomorrow I'm driving about an hour out of town to deliver two of my fiber artworks that were selected for...

I finally got brave enough to start working on my studio space/craft room/office that is our upstairs sunroom off the master bedroom. I've got this set of cabinets from IKEA and y'all, they're just not meant for being moved every few years! I started out with four of them, bought new when we lived in Texas the year before my son was born. They moved from there to Virginia, then back to Texas, followed by California. They were getting a little wobbly by that third move, but the packers put...
