Okay, friends. It's been a long time coming but I finally have a new crochet class on Skillshare! And if you're a last minute gift maker, this one is for you!! Last year I shared the written instructions for The Littlest Snowflake in a newsletter, but now you can follow along with me step by step as I walk you through exactly how I crochet and stiffen one of these pretty little snowflakes: And that's worsted weight cotton yarn, y'all, so you can actually SEE what you're doing! Once you get the hang of it, or if you're already experienced with thread crochet, you can try smaller weight yarns and crochet thread—it's all the same pattern! Just on a smaller scale. Here's a look at three different sizes I made, only changing the yarn/thread and crochet hook sizes: The class includes downloadable blocking schematics that you can print out to use to help guide you while pinning out your snowflake (cover it with plastic wrap to get multiple uses out of it and to prevent your stiffener from gluing your snowflake to the paper), one in each of the three sizes that I made. You can also totally eyeball, though, it if you're feeling like a rebel! Every snowflake is unique, after all, right? Here's our tree after adding some of my snowflakes to it: Isn't it pretty!? I just love them. There's something magical about crocheted snowflakes, don't you think? So. How do you make some, too? Well, you can jump back in time to the newsletter I shared last year for just the written instructions here. If you're a learning maven, you can join Skillshare through this referral link and get your first month free, along with access to the class. It's a subscription based service platform, but they have TONS of great videos for learning across all sorts of topics. Yes, including more crochet classes! And not just from me!! Or if you're really on the ball and are only interested in this one class, the first five people to click this link will get access to The Littlest Snowflake class on Skillshare for free! Here's the intro video for a preview: Yay! I only filmed this class the first year we moved to Hawaii. 😆 Now, who's going to nag me until I get the pattern published to Ravelry and Etsy?? And also to get my Star Snowflake Workshop up on Skillshare for next year? (THAT pattern is available on Ravelry and Etsy, at least.) I swear, y'all, I need a manager... any volunteers? Just kidding. Sort of. Happy crocheting, my friends! Oh and be sure to tag me on socials @crochetcetera if you share snowflakes you've made. Or any of my other patterns for that matter! I do love seeing what you make. Cheers!! -Connie P.S. Ms. Mabel hatched her babies! Here's a peek at a couple of them (there are five) as she tries to teach them to scavenge for food dropped underneath the bird feeder, lol: |
Seeker of beauty and joy in the cracks of mundanity, inviting you along for adventures through texture and color!
This morning I’m sitting beachside on the south shore of Oahu, writing to you in a word doc because I have no internet connection. And I’m okay with that. Of course, that means I probably won’t actually send this email until the afternoon! But that’s okay, too. I finished my secret squirrel yarn for the spinning magazine and we had a break in the rain, so I brought the finished hank to the beach for a little morning photoshoot. The light wasn’t quite optimal, being low and kind of behind, but...
Happy brand new year, my friends! Do you have anything cool planned for 2026? Not so much on the cool side, but it is what it is, our big thing for this coming year is our next PCS (Permanent Change of Duty Station). This summer we expect to be moving back to Georgia for the second time, to Fort Benning again. Maybe living on post this time, though? We'll see. But before that happens, I'm kicking off the year with another big, capital A, Fiber Art thing: I've had THREE pieces juried into the...
This week I got started on a new project for an upcoming issue of Spin Off magazine and I'm absolutely delighted that I've been given permission to share a few sneak peeks and behind the scenes views of the process as I'm working on it! Whoo hoo! I really appreciate not having to work in complete secret because I'm the most excited about a project when I'm in the middle of the ideation and creation phase. That's when all the good photo ops happen, too! Until the end for the FO pictures, of...
