Spinning in an Empty House

We're still waiting for our household goods to be delivered (fingers crossed for next week!) and it's still raining cats and dogs here in Georgia, so I've mostly just been reading and spinning to pass the time.

There's a tiny little tin roof over the stoop in the back of the house, so I've actually rather enjoyed listening the rain dance on it. It's a lovely soundtrack to spin to! (read my recent musings about the rain here)

I've tried spinning in several different rooms already.

The sunroom, of course, sitting on my yoga mat or a blanket and a pillow. The light is so wonderful in there.

I tried putting my e-spinner in a windowsill in the little office space off the kitchen (by the tin roof!) and while it makes for pretty pictures in the window, it's too high for me to spin comfortably from any of the seats we currently have.

The living room is where all the furniture ended up after trying out the kitchen and the sunroom first. We have a small borrowed couch and three plastic Adirondack style chairs we bought at the PX plus a box for a table. So of course I've done some spinning in there, too.

It's not the prettiest set up, I admit! But it's probably the most comfortable.

Although I don't mind spinning while sitting in the floor and have considered buying a yoga cushion or two for just that purpose.

I'm nearly finished with this pretty little purple colorway. Just one more rolag to go!

Perhaps after it's plied and finished I can take it out for some pictures in the amongst some of the prairie verbena that's blooming all over the place right now. But I need it to stop raining so much so I can do that!

We sprung a leak above the windows in the sunroom just the other day, actually, and I am currently waiting for someone to come by and either fix it or do some sort of temporary fix until it quits raining so we don't end up with water damage. Apparently, it's a common problem area in these old homes. And all I have to sop up the rainwater is a four pack of kitchen towels!

We did sacrifice a bath towel last night, too, and it now has stains from the wet wood floor on it. Hopefully they'll wash out, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Instead I think I'll go start spinning that last rolag while I wait for maintenance!

Hope you have a great weekend, friends.

Cheers!

P.S. I got one of my fiber art pieces back from her grand adventures! They included books from both of the exhibitions (one on the Big Island and the other in Shanghai) and it was so cool to compare the two of them. And doesn't she look great!? The dolphins came from my MIL from her time in Hawaii as a Navy spouse, so they seemed a perfect addition to my first little bit of decorating in the new house.

Hey, it's been a while! Thanks for your patience with me while we worked on settling into our new home. We're almost there! The kid started school this week and I'm actually really looking forward to settling into our new routine. So far so good with the new school - he especially likes the menu here. 😆 And although I haven't been writing much to share what I've been working on lately, tomorrow I'm driving about an hour out of town to deliver two of my fiber artworks that were selected for...

I finally got brave enough to start working on my studio space/craft room/office that is our upstairs sunroom off the master bedroom. I've got this set of cabinets from IKEA and y'all, they're just not meant for being moved every few years! I started out with four of them, bought new when we lived in Texas the year before my son was born. They moved from there to Virginia, then back to Texas, followed by California. They were getting a little wobbly by that third move, but the packers put...

Our HHG (household goods) were delivered from across the Pacific on Tuesday. It took about... six weeks? Not terrible, but still a long time to be without your things! Like my pillow. I really missed my pillow, y'all! This is our 8th PCS (Permanent Change of Duty Station) move, if I'm doing my math right, and I think we've hit the turning point when it goes from getting easier to just.. being tired of it. I'm on day 3 of unpacking now and I just don't feel like deciding where things should...
