The New Molokai Tapestry is nearly finished!

I've been a busy little bee this past week. Spinning and plying and finishing up the handspun yarn for my next tapestry. Closing in on the end of the crocheting today, too!

I've taken soooooo many pictures during the making of this piece. Sharing many of them over on Patreon as I go along. It feels good!

But it's also a lot of work. Especially when I add video content to the process as well. Seeing it all come together in the end, though, is pretty cool.

It's easy to forget how much work we put into the things we make. Time. Planning. Choosing just the right materials. Even making and fixing mistakes. Nevermind the actually making! It's all there in the finished piece, though. Holding memories within the fibers. Or, you know, whatever materials you use!

Art is kind of... magical like that. Don't you think? It's a vessel that holds a part of ourselves within it.

And having all these little snapshots of the process to look back on is a wonderful reminder of the journey. Not just for me, though. I love sharing it with you, too!

Bringing you along with me, inviting you into my little creative world and showing you more of what I see and feel as I bring these artistic visions to life, whether they're simple crochet patterns or large scale fiber art pieces, well, it all feels really special to me. It can be vulnerable and even scary sometimes. It can be celebratory and reflective. Inspiring, I hope! And hopefully not ever boring, ha ha.

If you can't tell, I'm in my feels a bit today.

Getting close to finishing this tapestry, one that holds a lot of meaning for me personally, as well as preparing to submit pretty much all of my "big" work this year to the "big show" here in Hawaiʻi... I'm feeling a mix of emotions! Overwhelm but also excitement. Nervousness but also generosity.

There's even a sense of obligation in there—to myself, to follow through and stand up for my work and choose myself first. Also to the work itself because it deserves to be seen. But also, and this is the big one, to you. To the world. To the person who needs to see my art because it sparks something within them.

This is what I'm here for. And right now it feels like a pivotal moment. A scary moment. But that's my sign right? That it matters? "Do scary things," I have heard more times than I can count.

Well, I gotta tell you, it's been a year full of scary things! The good kind of scary, though. And that's how I know I'm on the right path.

So. I better get back to work, I guess!

I have a tapestry to finish and some artist statements to write.

Wish me luck!

P.S. Ms. Mabel-who-doesn't-like-being-a-momma is at it again. She's got seven eggs under that chicken-shaped puddle. At least she's not on my porch this time!

This morning I’m sitting beachside on the south shore of Oahu, writing to you in a word doc because I have no internet connection. And I’m okay with that. Of course, that means I probably won’t actually send this email until the afternoon! But that’s okay, too. I finished my secret squirrel yarn for the spinning magazine and we had a break in the rain, so I brought the finished hank to the beach for a little morning photoshoot. The light wasn’t quite optimal, being low and kind of behind, but...

Happy brand new year, my friends! Do you have anything cool planned for 2026? Not so much on the cool side, but it is what it is, our big thing for this coming year is our next PCS (Permanent Change of Duty Station). This summer we expect to be moving back to Georgia for the second time, to Fort Benning again. Maybe living on post this time, though? We'll see. But before that happens, I'm kicking off the year with another big, capital A, Fiber Art thing: I've had THREE pieces juried into the...

This week I got started on a new project for an upcoming issue of Spin Off magazine and I'm absolutely delighted that I've been given permission to share a few sneak peeks and behind the scenes views of the process as I'm working on it! Whoo hoo! I really appreciate not having to work in complete secret because I'm the most excited about a project when I'm in the middle of the ideation and creation phase. That's when all the good photo ops happen, too! Until the end for the FO pictures, of...
