I suppose most people would lead with having a new home and follow up with being connected to the world wide web once again. But it's been a bit of a circus around here, not just with getting internet set up (the house wasn't equipped for it and it took the poor tech almost two hours to get it up and running) but also the house itself has just been a pain in the tookus. Before I launch into story mode, though, here are Bobby and Pikachu on our new front stoop! They enjoyed their grand adventures, I'm sure, moving from Hawaii to Georgia, but everyone was ready to start settling in to the new space. The problem was that I kept smelling gas in the house. In the sunroom, specifically, downstairs, which is the nicest place in the house to sit because it gets so much lovely light! But it sure was smelly. To me, anyway. My darling husband couldn't smell it. Nor did the first maintenance guy. The second maintenance guy said it was something dead in the crawl space. The third one said he "caught a whiff" of something, which is also what the Fire Chief said after housing insisted we call 911 when I still smelled gas in the house two days after the gas company came and fixed the first (exterior) leak. There was a second leak in the crawl space (which the fire department did NOT catch). It has now also been fixed, though, (by some local plumbers) and, I think, fingers crossed, we are down to simply having slightly musty 100 year old house smells now. Oh. And also, in the midst of the is it or is it not a gas leak circus... We had a BAT land on our window (outside) during daylight hours! (Also a potential source of stinky smells, but no evidence of them in our attic was found, thank goodness.) This little fellow is supposedly a Mexican free-tailed bat and yes, it has a TAIL! I didn't know they had tails. He hung out on our window until dark, I assume, and then went on about his batty business; he was gone by morning. So that's another fun thing we get to look out for. Along with the wood bees. And the one inch large venomous house spider that's posted up in one of our windows. Not to mention all the other little spiders. And the ants. And the wasps. And I hear tell of roaches and snakes, too... Oy vey. I don't think I'm much of a fan of old historic homes? And no, I have done not one bit of crocheting or spinning or painting or anything creative at all, really. I'm getting antsy because of it, too. But I just... haven't had the brainspace for it. Or something. Maybe now that I'm not low key worrying about my house blowing up, though? I DID unpack my e-spinner and look at it for a little while once or twice, lol. Oh! Maybe you can help me decide? Which one of these two colorways do you think should be my first spin in Georgia?? I'm leaning towards the purple because we do have the little purple prairie verbenas blooming along the sidewalks and roads. But that peachy orangish color really looks nice, too! Which would you choose??
Both of these were in my fiber stash in Hawaii, ordered from Fellview Fibres ages ago. Also, since we finally have proper internet, I think it's time to do a little yarn shopping! So I'm off to do that. Cheers! -Connie P.S. None of the birds or squirrels or chipmunks will let me take a decent picture of any of them with my phone, of course, but I'd like to introduce you to Georgie. This lush little plant is a golden pothos and I'm hoping together we can combat those old historic home smells! (Any tips on that are welcome, by the way.) |

Hey, it's been a while! Thanks for your patience with me while we worked on settling into our new home. We're almost there! The kid started school this week and I'm actually really looking forward to settling into our new routine. So far so good with the new school - he especially likes the menu here. 😆 And although I haven't been writing much to share what I've been working on lately, tomorrow I'm driving about an hour out of town to deliver two of my fiber artworks that were selected for...
I finally got brave enough to start working on my studio space/craft room/office that is our upstairs sunroom off the master bedroom. I've got this set of cabinets from IKEA and y'all, they're just not meant for being moved every few years! I started out with four of them, bought new when we lived in Texas the year before my son was born. They moved from there to Virginia, then back to Texas, followed by California. They were getting a little wobbly by that third move, but the packers put...
Our HHG (household goods) were delivered from across the Pacific on Tuesday. It took about... six weeks? Not terrible, but still a long time to be without your things! Like my pillow. I really missed my pillow, y'all! This is our 8th PCS (Permanent Change of Duty Station) move, if I'm doing my math right, and I think we've hit the turning point when it goes from getting easier to just.. being tired of it. I'm on day 3 of unpacking now and I just don't feel like deciding where things should...
